Bike Squad 2026

Our PMBI trained coaches are ready and waiting to get the kids stuck into some local tracks. We ride on ability not age so each group has a bit of everything depending on their experience.

INTERMEDIATE

Comfortable on single track trails with the confidence to ride the likes of Deans Bank, even if fitness or strength prohibits a full lap. We will be building on skills from the beginner group exploring the limits of shifting weight on the bike and translating it into cornering, climbing, descending and jumping.

How we roll!?

Getting some skids in after school is important!

We have options for all levels of experience.

We Adventure around Wānaka's beautiful trail network, building confidence whilst developing bike balance and a better understanding of the controls. Riders need to be comfortable riding on gravel paths unassisted (think the outlet or millennium tracks).

Bring along a working bike, helmet, closed toed shoes and some water. We will have a wee snack at Wānaka primary before heading out for a ride, aiming for a 6 o'clock pick up back at Wānaka primary.

Bike Squad will be running 3 separate sessions to ensure every rider is able to progress safely.

Bikers will fuel up at Kids Club before hitting the local tracks with their coach.

Bike Squad – Drop-off & Pick-up

We’ve made a few changes to our Bike Squad transport arrangements for Term 4.

To help keep costs down while continuing to provide the best coaching possible, we are moving away from individual school pick-ups and drop-offs. We have one van available this term, so parents will now be responsible for dropping their child off at the agreed meeting point and collecting them at the end of the session.

Meeting & Pick-up Times

For the first two weeks of Term 4:

📍 Wānaka Primary School
Drop-off/meeting time: 3:30pm
Pick-up time: 6:00pm

After the first two weeks, the meeting point may change depending on the session and logistics. We will give parents plenty of notice of the location and times via our WhatsApp groups.

Parents are responsible for ensuring their child arrives at the agreed meeting point on time and is collected promptly at the end of the session.

Bike Squad – Drop-off & Pick-up

What to bring?

For every Bike Squad session, your child will need:

  • A working bike with good brakes – bikes can be dropped at Wānaka Primary School in the morning or anytime during the school day before the session.

  • A properly fitted helmet

  • Closed-toe shoes suitable for riding

  • Gloves – recommended but not essential

  • Water bottle and a few small snack – please bring these in a small bag that your child can easily carry. Great snacks are cut apples, protein bars, bliss balls and some crackers and cheese.

  • One spare inner tube – we carry basic bike repair kits, but having the correct spare tube for your child’s bike is strongly recommended.

  • Medication, if required – please download and complete our medication consent form and provide it to us before the session.

School Bags

Children can bring their school bags with them in the van, but we encourage everyone to be as self-sufficient as possible and only bring what they need for Bike Squad.

Please make sure your child can comfortably carry their own small riding bag and knows where their water, snack and personal items are.
